The Ojo del Albino Glacier is one of the most demanding and rewarding adventures in Ushuaia. This full-day trek combines the beauty of Emerald Lagoon with the thrill of reaching a remote glacier surrounded by the towering peaks of the Fuegian Andes. The day begins with a transfer from Ushuaia to the starting point, where the hike begins through the Fuegian forest. The first section is of low difficulty, crossing lenga forests, peat valleys, and glacial rivers until reaching the serene Emerald Lagoon. Beyond the lagoon, the challenge truly begins. The trail climbs above the vegetation line into rocky alpine terrain, crossing loose scree and glacial moraines with steep slopes and stunning views over the Fuegian mountain range. After roughly four hours of ascent, hikers reach the breathtaking Ojo del Albino Glacier and its deep-blue lagoon — a place of silence, grandeur, and pure wilderness. This is a trek for experienced adventurers seeking to push their limits and experience Tierra del Fuego in its rawest form. Recommended to bring: trekking boots (no sneakers), thermal layers, waterproof jacket, gloves, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, medium backpack, and reusable water bottle. Note: the excursion may be modified or canceled due to weather or safety reasons at the guide’s discretion. Not suitable for people without good fitness or trekking experience.
